I kept silent as I heard him potter about the kitchen, unloading the dishwasher and reorganising the kitchen cupboards. I couldn’t see his face, but I could see his rugged outline and the familiar green shirt and dark-blue jeans he was wearing. Darren’s clothes.

I had probably been in that closet for about fifteen minutes or so when the imposter’s phone rang.

“Hello,” the imposter’s voice cut through the air. His voice was loud and gruff compared to Darren’s. “Victoria Park? Why do you want to meet me there?” A pause. “Alright, alright,” he growled. “Same place as usual?... Behind the Chinese Pagoda at 11pm? Are you serious? You owe me big time for this,” he rang off angrily. I could hear him marching about the kitchen again, shuffling around. Suddenly, he banged his way out through the front door; locking up as he went.
